The European Academy of Sciences (EurASc) will have a Portuguese for the first time as its President.
Prof. Rodrigo Martins, an associate member of SPM, has just been elected for a term of four years, as President of (EurASc), meaning “international recognition of the quality of the Portuguese scientific community”, according to Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Science, and Innovation.
Among the priorities for this mandate, Prof. Dr. Rodrigo Martins emphasizes the need for greater openness to society by conducting discussions and direct advice to scientific institutions, the creation of a EURASC section for researchers aged 40-45 as a way of counteracting the generally existing aging trend in the Academies and the promotion of EURASC as an entity of scientific literacy in Europe through the sharing by its members of their motivations and networking with other national academies.
The European Academy of Sciences is a fully independent international association of researchers which recognizes and elects the best European scientists with the aim of strengthening European scientific cooperation and using the experience of its members in advising other European bodies in improving European research, technological application, and social development.
SPM, on behalf of its Members, warmly congratulates Prof. Rodrigo Martins and hopes that he will carry out his position with the greatest success.
