XX Congresso da Sociedade Portuguesa de Materiais, XI International Materials Symposium | II IBERIAN CONGRESS ON MATERIALS SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Marinha Grande, Portugal, 10 – 13 April 2022
MATERIAIS 2022 continues the long-standing and well-established MATERIAIS congresses promoted by the Portuguese Materials Society (SPM). This edition, the XX Congresso da Sociedade Portuguesa de Materiais,XI International Materials Symposium | II IBERIAN CONGRESS ON MATERIALS SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY will take place in Marinha Grande, Portugal, from 10 to 13 April 2022.
MATERIAIS 2022 was conceived recognizing that we are on the cusp of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which will fundamentally alter the way we work, live, and relate to one another.
The convergence of physical, digital, and biological sciences will bring about profound changes in the way we design products, produce them, and the materials they are formed in whether it is from metal, ceramics, glass, polymers, biological materials, or composites.
MATERIAIS 2022 will explore the latest scientific and technical developments in Material Science and Materials Engineering, and related areas, bridging different scientific domains under the scope of the main theme “MATERIALS: EXPLORING A BETTER FUTURE FOR THE SOCIETY”. Research and Development in advanced and sustainable materials as well as in their manufacturing techniques which result in new products, processes and materials are of significant value to the socio-economic development of the Society. This International Congress will cover all materials areas, namely Functional Materials; Structural Materials; Materials Processing and Characterization; Materials Modelling and Simulation.
MATERIAIS 2022 includes four special sessions on:
1) Materials for Additive Manufacturing
2) Sustainable Materials
3) Materials and Processes: Digital-twins
4) Materials: From Academy to Industry
MATERIAIS 2022 will be hosted by the President of the Polytechnic of Leiria at the “House of Culture – Theatre Stephens”, Marinha Grande. The history of Marinha Grande is closely linked to the nearby Pinhal do Rei (the King’s Pine-Forest). This forest of maritime pine trees was planted in the 13th century by D. Afonso III. Initially intended to hold back the coastal sand which was beginning to invade the agricultural land, the forest gradually began to supply the wood needed for building the carracks and caravels used in the Portuguese maritime discoveries. Together, both the pine forest and the sands of the Atlantic beaches were fundamental in establishing the crucial position of the region within the metallurgical and glass industries of Portugal. Supplied by an abundance of the raw materials (wood and sand) needed for the manufacture of glass, the region has become the epicentre of the Portuguese glass and crystal glass industry. It has benefited from the skilled workmanship of many generations of craftsmen, producing a series of unique articles whose quality is recognised worldwide. Today, Marinha Grande is a pioneer city in the Glass, Moulds and Polymer Injection Moulding industries, recognised worldwide.
The Congress will be held in the central region of Portugal, famous for the Sunny Beaches, Historic Monuments and Castles, and the Atlantic Coast Landscape.
We are looking forward to your contribution and participation at MATERIAIS 2022!
